Luckily, there are a variety of options on the market today, ranging from compact crossovers with occasional-use rear seats to maximized SUVs that can haul eight adults in total comfort. There are even a few plug-in hybrids and fully electric offerings.

To make it easier to understand what's out there, we've compiled a list of every three-row SUV available in 2023, some of which are at dealers now and some of which are on their way soon. They run the gamut on pricing, ranging from under $30,000 to nearly $200,000, so there should be an option for almost any new-car shopper. Some are better than others, but they all offer enough seating to get you and a few extra passengers around with relative ease.

Compact 3-Row SUVs

2023 Land Rover Discovery Sport

3-Row SUVs For 2023: Today's Best Family-Friendly Options (1)

Starting Price: $49,375
Combined Fuel Economy: 20 MPG
Cargo Space: 4.1 / 23.2 / 55.6 Cubic Feet

The 2023 Land Rover Discovery Sport offers a third-row seat, unlike its BMW X3 and Mercedes-Benz GLC rivals. It's also the least expensive vehicle in Land Rover's lineup, though adding a third row costs an extra $1,725 over the $49,375 starting price.

Under the hood is a turbocharged 2.0-liter inline-four with 246 horsepower, and it gets 20 miles per gallon combined. The Discovery Sport doesn't have a low-range transfer case, but Land Rover's trick Terrain Response system helps keep all four wheels moving in bad weather or light terrain. 2023 Mercedes-Benz EQB SUV

3-Row SUVs For 2023: Today's Best Family-Friendly Options (2)

Starting Price: $53,900
Combined Fuel Economy: Not Rated
Cargo Space: 10.7 / 23.7 / 61.8 Cubic Feet

The Mercedes-Benz EQB SUV is the smallest, cheapest fully electric vehicle the company offers. Based on the GLB crossover, the EQB retains its sibling's optional third-row seat and seven-passenger capacity. With 10.7 cubic feet of cargo space with all seats up, the EQB isn't a massive, family-hauling machine, but its third row is good enough for average-sized adults over reasonable distances – think cross-town express, not cross-country road trip.

The front-drive, 188-hp EQB 250+ is rated to travel 245 miles before its 70.5-kilowatt-hour battery runs out. Go for all-wheel drive and your rating drops to 232 miles for the EQB 300 or 221 miles for the more powerful EQB 350. All trims have DC fast charging ability at a rate of up to 100 kilowatts – not phenomenal in this segment, but good enough to go from 10 to 80 percent in 31 minutes. Get pricing on the 2023 Mercedes-Benz EQB SUV.

2023 Mercedes-Benz GLB

3-Row SUVs For 2023: Today's Best Family-Friendly Options (3)

Starting Price: $40,950
Combined Fuel Economy: 27 MPG
Cargo Space: 12.4 / 24.0 / 56.7
Motor1.com Rating: 8.6/10

The Mercedes-Benz GLB is a charming small luxury crossover that boasts a surprisingly spacious interior thanks to its boxy shape. The GLB offers seating for up to seven with the $850 optional third-row seat – a feat not even larger SUVs like the BMW X3, Audi Q5, or even the GLC-Class can match. Like the all-electric EQB SUV mentioned above, the GLB's rearmost seat isn't particularly spacious, but it still offers a bit more versatility than the five-seat version.

The 221-hp GLB 250 comes with either front- or all-wheel drive, but there's also a Mercedes-AMG GLB 35 variant with a turbocharged, 302-hp four-cylinder if your small family desires big thrills. Get pricing on the 2023 Mercedes-Benz GLB.

2023 Mitsubishi Outlander

3-Row SUVs For 2023: Today's Best Family-Friendly Options (4)

Starting Price: $29,535
Combined Fuel Economy: 27 MPG
Cargo Space: 11.7 / 33.5 / 79.7 Cubic Feet
Motor1.com Rating: 8.3/10

The 2023 Mitsubishi Outlander shares much of its structure with the Nissan Rogue, but the Mitsu comes with a third-row seat that's not found on its cousin. While the way-back isn't particularly big, it's good enough for short jaunts or small passengers, and it should help the excellent Outlander earn some fans among compact crossover shoppers.

New for 2023 is a plug-in hybrid version of the Outlander, following up on the ho-hum previous generation with some genuinely good driving manners and all-electric range. With a 2.4-liter inline-four, front and rear electric motors, and a 20.0-kilowatt-hour hybrid battery, the Outlander PHEV has up to 38 miles of range and 248 total hp. The standard powertrain is an adequate 2.5-liter four with a continuously variable transmission, which gives the Outlander 27 mpg combined. Get pricing on the 2023 Mitusbishi Outlander.

2023 Tesla Model Y

3-Row SUVs For 2023: Today's Best Family-Friendly Options (5)

Starting Price: $49,990
Combined Fuel Economy: 122 MPGe
Cargo Space: 12.8 / 26.6 / 67.9 + 4.1 Cubic Feet

One of the few automakers to lower prices for the 2023 model year is Tesla, whose Model Y entry-level crossover now starts at $49,990 in base form. Add another $4,000 for the optional third-row seat and you're left with an electric seven-seater that goes an EPA-rated 279 miles between charges for less than $54,000. It's no surprise the automaker continues to have success, even against newer rivals.

If the base model isn't enough for you, a $52,990 Long Range version can go 330 miles between charges and offers the same $4,000 third row. And the Tesla's cargo space is enhanced thanks to a 4.1-cubic-foot front trunk, bringing seats-up volume to a total of 16.9 between the front and rear luggage areas. Unfortunately for family types, the speedy Model Y Performance is limited to five seats in two rows – hopefully 0-60 in 4.8 seconds is fast enough for the kids.Get pricing on the 2023 Tesla Model Y.

3-Row SUVs For 2023: Today's Best Family-Friendly Options (6)

Starting Price: $28,245

Motor1.com Rating: 8.0/10

At $28,245 including destination, the 2023 VW Tiguan is the cheapest three-row SUV available today. All front-drive models are seven-seaters, though the third row isn't available with all-wheel drive. The Tiguan comes standard with automatic emergency braking, but adding driver-assist features like adaptive cruise control and lane-centering tech requires an IQ Drive package that costs a reasonable $895 – even at $29,140 with the package, the Tiguan undercuts the similarly sized Outlander by a few hundred bucks.

All Volkswagen Tiguans get a turbocharged 2.0-liter inline-four with 184 hp and 221 lb-ft, achieving 26 mpg in combined driving. As with most other SUVs in this size class, the third-row seats aren't particularly spacious, but they're suitable for quick trips around town. Get pricing on the 2023 Volkswagen Tiguan.

Midsize 3-Row SUVs

2023 Acura MDX

3-Row SUVs For 2023: Today's Best Family-Friendly Options (7)

Starting Price: $50,745
Combined Fuel Economy: 22 MPG
Cargo Space: 16.3 / 39.1 / 71.4 Cubic Feet
Motor1.com Rating: 9.1/10

Acura says the MDX is the best-selling three-row luxury SUV of all time, which isn't hard to believe given its reasonable pricing (and the fact that it was one of the very first three-row luxury SUVs). Still, that doesn't take away from what a thoroughly nice crossover the MDX is. With a standard third row of seats in its stylish, high-quality cabin, every new MDX can carry seven passengers.

The 2023 MDX offers a few different trim levels, including a higher-performance Type S model that piles on power without skimping on luxury either. Instead of the standard MDX's naturally aspirated 3.5-liter V6, the Type S gets a turbocharged 3.0-liter with a healthy 355 hp. All-wheel drive is optional on the regular Acura MDX and standard on the Type S, which also gets a four-corner air suspension that both improves comfort and provides a bit more ground clearance when necessary.Get pricing on the 2023 Acura MDX.

3-Row SUVs For 2023: Today's Best Family-Friendly Options (8)

Starting Price: $60,395
Combined Fuel Economy: 21 MPG
Cargo Space: 14.2 / 35.7 / 69.6 Cubic Feet
Motor1.com Rating: 8.8/10

Even with standard all-wheel drive and trim German styling, the 2023 Audi Q7 still flies under the radar compared with its competitors at BMW and Mercedes-Benz. Audi offers the Q7 in a few different variations, starting with a base turbocharged 2.0-liter four-cylinder that gets 21 mpg combined. A 3.0-liter V6 is an option on some trims, getting 20 mpg. At the top of the heap is a twin-turbocharged 4.0-liter V8, available only on the SQ7 sport-ute but cranking out 500 hp and getting 17 mpg.

Whatever variant you get, all Q7 and SQ7 models come standard with a third-row seat and a total passenger capacity of seven. The rear seat in the Q7 is a bit more spacious than that of the Mercedes-Benz GLE, and BMW seems to have abandoned the X5's optional third row altogether. Get pricing on the 2023 Audi Q7.

Alongside the body-on-frame Escalade, Cadillac also offers the mid-size XT6 crossover. The XT6 is not only smaller, but more efficient than the legendary Escalade, with either front- or all-wheel drive taking marching orders from a turbocharged 2.0-liter inline-four or a 3.6-liter V6. The seven-passenger XT6 puts two USB ports in each row of seats, with wireless Apple CarPlay and Android Auto keeping your favorite apps close at hand. A power liftgate is also standard.Get pricing on the 2023 Cadillac XT6.

Yet it achieves a respectable 21 mpg in mixed driving and can tow up to 5,000 pounds, courtesy of a standard 3.6-liter V6 and nine-speed automatic transmission.

Automatic emergency braking, lane keep assistance, wireless smartphone integration, and three-zone automatic climate controls keep every passenger safe and comfortable on the base model, although niceties like heated and ventilated leather seats, adaptive cruise control, and a surround-view monitor are available on higher trims. The 2023 Ford Explorer continues the nameplate's winning streak for family-friendly SUV capability. The Explorer offers a variety of trims, ranging from a base, appliance-spec XL to the rugged Timberline and razor-sharp ST. We bet most Ford families would get the most use out of a Timberline model, whose all-terrain tires, slight lift, and robust cladding would help it get out into the wilderness and back drama-free.

The Ford Explorer is available with six or seven seats and four different powertrains. A turbocharged 2.3-liter inline-four is standard and found on most models. The Limited Hybrid gets a naturally aspirated 3.3-liter V6 and an electric motor, while the Platinum gets a twin-turbocharged 3.0-liter V6. Finally, at the top of the food chain is the ST, which gets a version of the same engine making 400 hp. Rear-drive is standard, and all-wheel drive is an option. The third-row seat on the 3.5T V6 Advanced+ model is what merits entry on this list. New this year is a freshened front end with blocky, bold styling, as well as a new XRT trim level that gets 20-inch wheels, darkened exterior accents, and slightly more rugged cladding and front skid plates.

Carrying over is the Palisade's 291-hp, 3.8-liter V6, which achieves up to 22 mpg combined. The Palisade comes standard with navigation, adaptive cruise control, lane-centering technology, and a digital instrument cluster. Get pricing on the 2023 Hyundai Palisade.

3-Row SUVs For 2023: Today's Best Family-Friendly Options (18)

Starting Price: $50,395
Combined Fuel Economy: 22 MPG
Cargo Space: 14.5 / 41.6 / 75.4 Cubic Feet
Motor1.com Rating: 9.2/10

The old Infiniti QX60 was utterly forgettable, but the new one is crisply styled, nicely finished, and downright pleasant to drive. Partial credit goes to the new nine-speed automatic, which replaces a continuously variable transmission that was dull and uninspiring.

With three rows of seats standard, the QX60 can carry up to eight passengers, though most models get the second-row captain's chairs that limit the count to seven. Still, it's got plenty of space for most small families who sometimes have to take Grandma and Grandpa along for the ride. Get pricing on the 2023 Infiniti QX60.

Motor1.com Rating: 9.3/10

The Jeep Grand Cherokee L debuted in 2021 as the first variant of the redesigned midsize-SUV family. The first seven-seat Grand Cherokee in history, the L model is spacious and attractive, with a surprisingly big third-row seat that can accommodate two passengers in relative comfort. Like the two-row GC, the Grand Cherokee L offers either a 3.6-liter V6 or a 5.7-liter V8 – we suspect the new Stellantis turbocharged inline-six will arrive in the next couple years.

Till then, the V6 makes a decent daily driver, though folks who want to tow should plan on optioning the V8 and its attendant 7,200-pound trailering capacity. Rear-wheel drive is standard, with three different all-wheel-drive setups available as an option (including two with a selectable low range). Get pricing on the 2023 Jeep Grand Cherokee L.

Starting Price: $29,590
Combined Fuel Economy: 37 MPG
Cargo Space: 12.6 / 38.5 / 75.5 Cubic Feet
Motor1.com Rating: 9.4/10

The 2023 Kia Sorento is one of the smaller three-row SUVs on the market today, but its trim proportions and good price make it one of our favorites. And those way-back seating positions aren't as bad as one might think – you won't feel too guilty asking your neighbor's kids to sit back there. With seating for six or seven, depending on if you get the second-row captain's chairs or a bench seat, the Kia Sorento is one of the best options for families who occasionally need to bring the playgroup along for a ride.

The Sorento comes standard with a naturally aspirated 2.5-liter four-cylinder that gets up to 26 mpg combined, but if you can swing it, the turbocharged 2.5-liter is much more fun to drive and it still gets up to 25 mpg. With 281 hp and 311 lb-ft of torque, the turbo Sorento has even more twist than the larger Kia Telluride. There are also hybrid and plug-in hybrid versions that get up to 37 mpg or offer 33 miles of all-electric range. Get pricing on the 2023 Kia Sorento.

Combined Fuel Economy: 23 MPG
Cargo Space: 21.0 / 46.0 / 87.0 Cubic Feet
Motor1.com Rating: 9.3/10

If the Kia Sorento is a touch too small inside, your local dealer will be happy to steer you toward the company's flagship Telluride SUV. Updated for 2023, the Telluride has a slightly more techno appearance, with stacked headlights and new grille textures. Like the Hyundai Palisade, the Telluride has seating for up to eight passengers, though curiously, it has. morec argo space than its platform-mate. The Telluride can tow up to 5,000 pounds thanks to a standard V6 engine, and all-wheel drive is an option.Get pricing on the 2023 Kia Telluride.

Cargo Space (130): 15.3 / 35.8 / 76.1 Cubic Feet
Motor1.com Rating: 9.2/10

When Land Rover reintroduced the Defender to the US market after a brief hiatus, we were surprised, but happy, to see that it would offer a third row option on the four-door 110 model. Amazingly, Land Rover is doubling down on three-row Defenders by offering an even longer 130 model. While the 110 has seating for seven, the 130 seats eight thanks to a wider, three-position third-row seat.

A 296-hp inline-four comes standard on the Defender 110, though a mild-hybrid, turbocharged 3.0-liter inline-six is optional and has 395 hp. There's also a mental Defender 110 in the way of the supercharged, 518-horse V8. The 2023 Defender 130 only comes with the turbo six in two states of tune – the base engine isn't hybridized and makes 296 hp, while the upgrade gets 48-volt electric assist and 395 hp (as on the Defender 110).Get pricing on the 2023 Land Rover Defender.

2023 Land Rover Discovery

3-Row SUVs For 2023: Today's Best Family-Friendly Options (23)

Starting Price: $59,875
Combined Fuel Economy: 21 MPG
Cargo Space: 9.1 / 45.0 / 74.3 Cubic Feet

The 2023 Land Rover Discovery is a rugged, mid-size three-row SUV that revives one of the automaker's most storied nameplates. As one would expect of a Land Rover, it has standard all-wheel drive, with an optional locking rear differential and low-range transfer case. The 2023 Land Rover Discovery seats up to seven passengers inside a stylish, well-appointed cabin.

The 2023 model offers two different turbocharged engines. A 2.0-liter inline-four makes 296 horsepower, while a mild-hybrid 3.0-liter inline-six has 355 hp. Both get 21 mpg combined, though the smaller engine is a touch more efficient in the city. The inline-six can tow up to 8,200 pounds and is very smooth and enjoyable to drive, while the four-banger works just fine in normal traffic if power isn't a huge priority. Get pricing on the 2023 Land Rover Discovery.

2023 Lexus GX

3-Row SUVs For 2023: Today's Best Family-Friendly Options (24)

Starting Price: $59,025
Combined Fuel Economy: 16 MPG
Cargo Space: 11.6 / 46.7 / 64.7 Cubic Feet

Yes, the 2023 Lexus GX is pretty ancient as new cars go, dating back to the 2010 model year (with some facelifts since then). That means you're not going to get the power or fuel economy of more modern products, with only 301 hp and 16 mpg from its 4.6-liter V8. What you do get is a robust body-on-frame design with selectable low-range gearing for the standard four-wheel drive, making the GX 460 as close as you can get to a Lexus-badged 4Runner. The tall, narrow design also pays dividends inside, with plenty of headroom for all passengers. Get pricing on the 2023 Lexus GX.

Starting Price: $40,970
Combined Fuel Economy: 25 MPG
Cargo Space: 14.9 / 40.0/ 74.2 Cubic Feet

Even though it doesn't directly replace the CX-9, the 2024 Mazda CX-90 is a slightly larger, more premium SUV that the automaker hopes will compete with both regular and luxury brands. With a starting price of just over $40,000, the CX-90 offers a turbocharged 3.3-liter inline-six with two states of tune – 280 hp and 340 hp – as well as a four-cylinder plug-in hybrid variant with 26 miles of all-electric range. All-wheel drive is standard, as are active safety features like adaptive cruise control and lane departure intervention.

Like the CX-9 with which it will share a showroom, the CX-90 is fun to drive in whatever form it takes, with plenty of power and good handling. It can also tow up to 5,000 pounds. Maximum seating capacity is eight, though the narrow third row is best left for skinny folks and kids, and cargo volume is down a bit on the likes of the Acura MDX and the Kia Telluride. Get pricing on the 2024 Mazda CX-90.

Little-known fact: The original Mercedes-Benz M-Class mid-size SUV offered a third-row seat in its first generation. That went away until the M-Class' replacement, the GLE, was redesigned for 2019. However, the popular Benz crossover now offers seating for seven passengers thanks to the $2,100 optional third-row seat – which also bundles electric seat adjustments for the second row.

The 2023 Mercedes-Benz GLE is available with either a 2.0-liter inline-four or a 3.0-liter inline-six, as well as a 4.0-liter V8. The six available on the GLE 450 and GLE 53 is a peach, with plenty of torque and buttery-smooth operation, while the V8-powered GLE 580 pours on the juice. There's also a top-dog GLE 63 model, though the third row isn't available. Get pricing on the 2023 Mercedes-Benz GLE.

Motor1.com Rating: 9.2/10

If the auto industry gave out most-improved awards, the 2023 Nissan Pathfinder might be a shoo-in. Replacing a predecessor that sold well but was very underwhelming, the new Pathfinder's single greatest improvement might be its new nine-speed automatic transmission – no more CVT! The Nissan is also pretty spacious, with room for up to eight passengers thanks to three seat belts in both rear rows.

It still has a 3.5-liter V6 under the hood, good for 284 hp and up to 6,000 pounds of towing, plus a 23-mpg combined rating with either front- or all-wheel drive.Get pricing on the 2023 Nissan Pathfinder.

As on the truck, the R1S offers dual-motor, tri-motor, and quad-motor powertrains, and even the least powerful variant boasts 600 hp. All-wheel drive is standard, and fitting the All-Terrain Pack boosts ground clearance to a heady 14.9 inches.

The R1S offers either a 105.0-kilowatt-hour battery or a 135.0-kWh unit, with the former enabling up to 260 miles of range and the latter extending that to 316 miles. The Rivian recharges at a rate of 220 kilowatts, giving it some of the fastest charging in the industry, though still behind the Tesla Model X's 250-kW rate.

Take a walk through any suburban community in America and you're all but guaranteed to see at least one Tesla Model X. The company's first SUV came out a few years ago to plenty of praise from Tesla fans, and it continues to be a popular EV choice thanks to its spacious interior, impressive cargo room (including a big frunk), strong performance, and convenient network of Supercharger fast-charging stations.

The Tesla Model X isn't nearly as cheap as it used to be, but prices have come down to $94,990 to start, plus $3,500 for a third-row seat. There's also a bonkers Plaid model that can go 333 miles on a charge and accelerate to 60 mph in just 2.5 seconds. Get pricing on the 2023 Tesla Model X.

Combined Fuel Economy: 17 MPG

Some trims of the 2023 Toyota 4Runner offer a third-row seating option, which adds $805 to the body-on-frame SUV's $40,390 starting price. That reasonable sum gets you a smallish seating area for two, good for kids or adults you don't like very much. With all the seats up, the 4Runner has a minute 9.0 cubic feet of cargo space, but drop the third row down and there's plenty of room for active lifestyles. Get pricing on the 2023 Toyota 4Runner.

2023 Toyota Highlander

3-Row SUVs For 2023: Today's Best Family-Friendly Options (34)

Motor1.com Rating: 8.2/10

Updated for 2023 with a new interior, much-improved infotainment, and standard 2.4-liter turbo four, the Toyota Highlander is better than ever. As with many Toyotas, there's also an available hybrid model that gets excellent fuel economy. Space in the third row is tigher than in some of its primary rivals, but the Highlander is still a hot-selling option in its class, and for good reason. Get pricing on the 2023 Toyota Highlander.

2024 Toyota Grand Highlander

3-Row SUVs For 2023: Today's Best Family-Friendly Options (35)

Starting Price: $44,405
Combined Fuel Economy: 36 MPG (est.)
Cargo Space: 20.6 / 57.9 / 97.5 Cubic Feet

If the Highlander just isn't big enough, the 2024 Toyota Grand Highlander may be just the ticket. Riding on a 4.0-inch-longer wheelbase, the Grand Highlander has much more passenger and cargo room than its stablemate – up to 97.5 cubic feet with all the seats folded down.

The base engine is the same 2.4-liter turbo as in the smaller Highalnder, and there will also be a 2.5-liter hybrid. However, the bigger crossover will also get a Hybrid Max option first seen on the Crown sedan. A turbocharged, electrified 2.4-liter engine will give the Hybrid Max 362 horses and 400 pound-feet. The Grand Highlander is one of the more expensive options in its class, but it drives well and gets good fuel economy.

2023 Volkswagen Atlas

3-Row SUVs For 2023: Today's Best Family-Friendly Options (36)

Starting Price: $36,445
Combined Fuel Economy: 22 MPG
Cargo Space: 20.6 / 55.5 / 96.8 Cubic Feet
Motor1.com Rating: 7.5/10

Designed for American tastes, the 2023 Volkswagen Atlas is even built domestically in VW's assembly plant in Chattanooga, Tennessee. Currently, the Atlas offers the buyer's choice of four-cylinder or VR6 engines, but the updated 2024 model does away with the larger engine, while adding a slightly more rugged Peak Edition trim and some revised styling inside and out.

With a huge cabin and seating for up to eight passengers, the Atlas is a very good option if roominess is a priority. It also has a standard digital instrument cluster and available wireless smartphone mirroring, as well as standard automatic emergency braking and optional IQ.Drive semi-autonomous driver-assistance. Get pricing on the 2023 Volkswagen Atlas.

Combined Fuel Economy: 25 MPG
Cargo Space: 12.6 / 35.6 / 65.5 Cubic Feet

Volvo is always keen to tout its vehicles' safety records, but the company also considers climate change to be a far more serious safety threat. As such, it has electrified its entire lineup, and all future Volvo debuts will be all-electric. The 2023 Volvo XC90 hasn't been made into a full EV, but that doesn't stop it from offering a bit of sustainability with its spacious, seven-seat interior.

For starters, the XC90 T8 Recharge plug-in hybrid model got an upgrade for 2022 and can now travel 36 miles on pure electricity before the gas engine fires up, with a combined fuel economy rating of 26 mpg all things considered. What's more, all trims now offer mild-hybrid technology to reduce emissions and improve smoothness. Get pricing on the 2023 Volvo XC90.

Starting Price: $79,000 (est.)
Combined Fuel Economy: TBD
Cargo Volume: 67.6 Cubic Feet

Although not a direct replacement for the XC90, the Volvo EX90 is the automaker's first ground-up fully electric effort. The EX90 will come with three rows of seats standard, and it's sized roughly equivalent to the XC90.

More information on the EX90 is on its way, and we'll update this entry as it arrives.

Starting Price: $78,845
Combined Fuel Economy: 22 MPG
Cargo Space: 12.8 / 48.6 / 90.4 Cubic Feet
Motor1.com Rating: 9.3/10

With a polarizing new split-headlight treatment and a long list of technological enhancements, the 2023 BMW X7 is fresh off a mid-cycle facelift to show it's still a bona fide modern BMW. Both the base 40i and speedy M60i trims get mild-hybrid assistance, and there's still a fast, luxurious Alpina XB7 atop the range.

Inside, the X7 has seating for up to seven, and the cabin is as modern as the exterior. BMW's iDrive 8 runs a 12.3-inch digital gauge cluster and 14.9-inch center display, with the company's new monolith-style touchscreen replacing the old hooded instrument panel. Get pricing on the 2023 BMW X7.

2023 Cadillac Escalade

3-Row SUVs For 2023: Today's Best Family-Friendly Options (40)

Starting Price: $82,690
Combined Fuel Economy: 23 MPG
Cargo Space: 25.5 / 72.9 / 121.0 Cubic Feet
Cargo Space (ESV): 41.5 / 94.1 / 142.8 Cubic Feet
Motor1.com Rating: 9.1/10

Although Cadillac has seen some ups and downs in the last couple decades, the Escalade flagship SUV has always been a sales success for the brand. It's also better than ever since it was fully redesigned for 2021. 2023 brings few updates, but that's not a bad thing. The Escalade still has an incredibly spacious, comfortable interior and available Super Cruise hands-free driver assistance that works brilliantly on limited-access highways.

The Escalade is available in normal or extended wheelbase (ESV) models with rear- or four-wheel drive and the buyer's choice of a 6.2-liter V8 or a turbodiesel 3.0-liter inline-six. There's also a powerful, range-topping Escalade V with a supercharger and – get this – 682 hp. It also has a price tag of nearly 150 grand. If that's too much for you, don't sweat it. Both the standard V8 and the optional turbodiesel are excellent engines for this sumptuous, comfortable luxo-SUV. Get pricing on the 2023 Cadillac Escalade.

2023 Chevrolet Tahoe/Suburban

3-Row SUVs For 2023: Today's Best Family-Friendly Options (41)

Starting Price: $56,095
Combined Fuel Economy: 24 MPG
Cargo Space (Tahoe): 25.5 / 72.6 / 122.9 Cubic Feet
Cargo Space (Suburban): 41.5 / 93.8 / 144.7 Cubic Feet
Motor1.com Rating: 7.4/10

One of the first SUVs in history was the Chevrolet Suburban, which came out in 1935 and has been a staple of, um, the suburbs ever since. Seriously, the Suburban and its shorter-wheelbase Tahoe sibling are just about as spacious as it gets without resorting to a church-surplus passenger van.

For 2023, they carry over mostly unchanged, but that's not a bad thing. There's a long list of standard safety features like automatic emergency braking and lane-keep assist, as well as an optional (and incredibly comfortable) air suspension with magnetic dampers. What's more, these body-on-frame SUVs offer two V8s – a 5.3-liter or a 6.2-liter – and a turbodiesel 3.0-liter inline-six, meaning they're up for some heavy towing.Get pricing on the 2023 Chevrolet Tahoe and 2023 Chevrolet Suburban.

2023 Ford Expedition

3-Row SUVs For 2023: Today's Best Family-Friendly Options (42)

Starting Price: $57,020
Combined Fuel Economy: 19 MPG
Cargo Space (Expedition): 19.3 / 57.5 / 104.6
Cargo Space (Expedition MAX): 34.3 / 73.3 / 121.5 Cubic Feet
Motor1.com Rating: 8.3/10

Whether you pick a 2023 Ford Expedition or an extended-wheelbase Expedition MAX, you're going to get a lot of space for the money. Fresh off last year's mid-cycle refresh, the Expedition lineup now includes the lifted Timberline. Every 2023 Expedition has a twin-turbocharged 3.5-liter EcoBoost V6 under the hood, good for up to 440 hp on that trim – the XL and XLT have 380 ponies, while the Limited, King Ranch, and Platinum have 400.

The spacious cabin gets an optional 15.5-inch center display borrowed from the Mustang Mach-E. BlueCruise handsfree driver assistance is also available. The 2023 Ford Expedition can also tow up to 9,300 pounds, a number that would have been unheard of for most family SUVs just a few years ago. Get pricing on the 2023 Ford Expedition.

2023 GMC Yukon / Yukon XL

3-Row SUVs For 2023: Today's Best Family-Friendly Options (43)

Starting Price: $59,295
Combined Fuel Economy: 24 MPG
Cargo Space (Yukon): 25.5 / 72.6 / 122.9 Cubic Feet
Cargo Space (Yukon XL): 41.5 / 93.8 / 144.7 Cubic Feet
Motor1.com Rating: 7.6/10

GMC redesigned its popular Yukon lineup alongside the related Chevy Tahoe and Suburban for 2021, and they carry into 2023 with few changes. The regular-wheelbase Yukon and long-wheelbase Yukon XL are among the most spacious passenger vehicles on the market, perfect for limousine, executive, and family shoppers.

The Yukon comes standard with a 5.3-liter V8, though a 6.2-liter V8 and a 3.0-liter turbodiesel inline-six are available. Automatic emergency braking is standard, as are wireless CarPlay and Android Auto. Premium interior options like leather upholstery and ventilated seats are available, and the short-wheelbase Yukon also comes in an off-road–ready AT4 trim level. Get pricing on the 2023 GMC Yukon.

2023 Infiniti QX80

3-Row SUVs For 2023: Today's Best Family-Friendly Options (44)

Starting Price: $74,595
Combined Fuel Economy: 16 MPG
Cargo Space: 16.6 / 49.6 / 95.1 Cubic Feet

The 2023 Infiniti QX80 is mostly unchanged from the previous model year. Rear-wheel drive is standard, taking orders from a 400-hp 5.6-liter V8 and seven-speed automatic transmission. Four-wheel drive with a selectable low range is optional, giving the QX80 legitimate off-road capability – no surprise given there's a Nissan Patrol Y62 hiding under the posh Infiniti bodywork.

The big luxury SUV is still getting on in years, though. Getting just 16 mpg combined in rear-drive form, the QX80 is thirsty, and although it has a smooth, cushy ride (and plenty of ground clearance and wheel articulation), body motions can feel unsettling on a curvy road. Still, it feels reassuringly robust and rugged, and the comfy interior is just a bonus. Get pricing on the 2023 Infiniti QX80.

2023 Jeep Wagoneer /Grand Wagoneer

3-Row SUVs For 2023: Today's Best Family-Friendly Options (45)

Starting Price: $60,995
Combined Fuel Economy: 19 MPG
Cargo Space: 27.4 / 70.8 / 116.7 Cubic Feet
Cargo Space (L): 42.1 / 85.3 / 130.9 Cubic Feet
Motor1.com Rating: 8.6/10

2023 Jeep Wagoneer and Grand Wagoneer are full-size, body-on-frame SUVs built to do battle with the likes of the Chevrolet Tahoe and Lincoln Navigator. The Wagoneer is more of a mainstream sport-ute, with a standard 5.7-liter Hemi V8 and comfortable interior fittings – leather is standard, with a smattering of wood and aluminum trim. There's also a longer Wagoneer L model that's even bigger than a Suburban. It gets a standard twin-turbocharged inline-six with 420 hp. Get pricing on the 2023 Jeep Wagoneer.

Meanwhile, the big-daddy Grand Wagoneer is built to battle the Escalade, with a 6.4-liter Hemi and up to five infotainment screens in the cabin – the main one in the middle of the dash, an extra screen in front of the passenger seat, two rear-seat entertainment displays, and a rear-seat HVAC/audio controller. Like its kid sibling, there's also a Grand Wagoneer L model with a twin-turbo six, but in the flagship, it makes 510 hp. Get pricing on the 2023 Jeep Grand Wagoneer.

2023 Lexus LX

3-Row SUVs For 2023: Today's Best Family-Friendly Options (46)

Starting Price: $90,660
Combined Fuel Economy: 14 MPG
Cargo Space: 11.0 / 44.0 / 64.0 Cubic Feet
Motor1.com Rating: 8.3/10

The 2023 Lexus LX 600 is a better luxury SUV than any of its predecessors, yet it hasn't lost the plot as far as off-road capability is concerned. Based on the 300-Series Toyota Land Cruiser (that we don't get in the US), the LX 600 now offers a base trim that's only a little more expensive than the previous-generation Land Cruiser, as well as several posh variants that seat up to seven.

Found under the hood is a twin-turbocharged 3.5-liter V6 with 409 hp, and it gets a much-improved 19 mpg combined. The Lexus LX can also tow up to 8,000 pounds, and it offers the automaker's impressive new tech suite displayed on a 12.3-inch center touchscreen. Get pricing on the 2023 Lexus LX.

2023 Lincoln Navigator

3-Row SUVs For 2023: Today's Best Family-Friendly Options (47)

Starting Price: $81,620
Combined Fuel Economy: 19 MPG
Cargo Space (Navigator): 19.3 / 57.5 / 103.3
Cargo Space (Navigator L): 34.3 / 73.3 / 120.2 Cubic Feet

The Lincoln Navigator has a bit more technology onboard to do battle with the impressive Cadillac Escalade. Foremost, the big sport-ute gets available BlueCruise hands-free driver assistance, which works about as well as the Escalade's Super Cruise. Also on-hand is a big, 13.2-inch center screen with wireless smartphone integration, as well as a 5.2-inch screen for rear-seat passengers to control their climate and audio functions.

As with last year's SUV, a twin-turbocharged 3.5-liter V6 is standard, producing a healthy 440 hp. With an 8,700-pound towing capacity, the Navigator can get the whole polo team – and their horses – to the pitch. Get pricing on the 2023 Lincoln Navigator.

2023 Mercedes-Benz EQS SUV

3-Row SUVs For 2023: Today's Best Family-Friendly Options (48)

Starting Price: $105,550
Combined Fuel Economy: 85 MPGe
Cargo Space: N/A / 22.7 / 74.2 Cubic Feet
Motor1.com Rating: 9.1/10

With much of the same slippery design as the EQS sedan, the 2023 Mercedes-Benz EQS SUV clearly shows its futuristic mien with the very first look. Although nominally related to the GLS, the EQS SUV has about as much space inside as a GLE, and its third row is best left to your short and limber friends.

But with an EPA-estimated 305 miles of range and an available Hyperscreen set of dash displays, the EQS SUV is an undeniably futuristic, sleek machine. Adding to the appeal is a smooth, genteel ride and plenty of power, even in the base single-motor EQS 450+ model. Get pricing on the 2023 Mercedes-Benz EQS.

2023 Mercedes-Benz GLS

3-Row SUVs For 2023: Today's Best Family-Friendly Options (49)

Starting Price: $82,950
Combined Fuel Economy: 20 MPG
Cargo Space: 17.4 / 48.7 / 84.7 Cubic Feet
Motor1.com Rating: 9.3/10

Mercedes-Benz may be most famous for the G-Class, but the three-row GLS packs folks in much more comfortably. If you have money to spend, you can get the first SUV to wear a Maybach badge. The 2023 Mercedes-Maybach GLS 600 offers tons of power from its twin-turbocharged 4.0-liter V8, though if you need a third row, the Maybach can't help you.

Not to worry. The Mercedes-Benz GLS 450 has tons of available luxury features, and its 362-hp, turbocharged 3.0-liter inline-six is a paragon of smoothness thanks to a mild-hybrid system, or you could get the V8-powered GLS 580 or fire-breathing GLS 63. The GLS can also tow up to 7,700 pounds, and available air suspension with active anti-roll bars allows the SUV to lean into corners and counteract body roll. Get pricing on the 2023 Mercedes-Benz GLS.

2023 Nissan Armada

3-Row SUVs For 2023: Today's Best Family-Friendly Options (50)

Starting Price: $52,495
Combined Fuel Economy: 16 mpg
Cargo Space: 16.5 / 49.9 / 95.4 Cubic Feet
Motor1.com Rating: 7.2/10

Nissan's flagship three-row SUV received a big update for 2021, but it's still the same lovable, if flawed, off-road–capable SUV it's always been. Like the Infiniti QX80, the Armada is based on the same platform as the global Nissan Patrol, and those jungle-ready bones shine through in the SUV's good suspension articulation and composed ride over rocks and obstacles. However, its 5.6-liter V8 is thirsty, and the Armada tends to come undone in corners and on undulating pavement. Get pricing on the 2023 Nissan Armada.

2023 Land Rover Range Rover

3-Row SUVs For 2023: Today's Best Family-Friendly Options (51)

Starting Price: $113,975
Combined Fuel Economy: 21 MPG
Cargo Space: 8.7 / 42.1 / 93.9 Cubic Feet
Motor1.com Rating: 9.7/10

The full-size 2023 Range Rover now offers a third row of seats on long-wheelbase models. Replacing the smaller, three-row Range Rover Sport, the seven-passenger Range Rover is redesigned for this model year, bringing a long list of off-road and luxury features to the legendary British SUV. But that doesn't mean it's forgotten its heritage – a drop-down tailgate is still standard, perfect for posh picnics in an English garden.

Under the hood of the 2023 Range Rover is either a mild-hybrid, turbocharged 3.0-liter inline-six or a mild-hybrid twin-turbocharged 4.4-liter V8 (sourced from BMW). Both provide good performance on the road, though obviously the V8 is much faster and sportier. In long-wheelbase, seven-passenger form, the 2023 Range Rover is massive inside, with a third row that can actually accommodate adults (if for short journeys only).

2023 Toyota Sequoia

3-Row SUVs For 2023: Today's Best Family-Friendly Options (52)

Starting Price: $59,960
Combined Fuel Economy: 22 MPG
Cargo Space: 11.5 / 49.0 / 86.5 Cubic Feet

The 2023 Toyota Sequoia is finally redesigned, replacing an SUV that's been around with only minor updates since 2008. With a totally revamped infotainment system, edgy styling, and a standard i-Force Max hybrid powertrain, the Sequoia is more advanced in many ways than the SUV it replaces. But there's a solid rear axle instead of an independent suspension, and the hybrid battery's placement makes the third row and cargo area tighter than the old Sequoia's.

The new SUV continues to offer a variety of trim levels, including a wilderness-approved TRD Pro model that has some genuine off-road chops. It can also tow up to 9,520 pounds and achieves a 22-mpg combined rating in EPA testing. Get pricing on the 2023 Toyota Sequoia.
