Welcome to IGN's Subnautica: Below Zero walkthrough. This section will teach you how to find and cure the Frozen Leviathan. The Frozen Leviathan is technically a Leviathan Class Organism, although it is the only one left of its kind, trapped in a block of ice and infected with the deadly Kharaa bacteria Al-An accidentally loosed on Planet 4546B.

Finding and Curing the Frozen Leviathan

At this point in the game Robin has some idea of what happened to Sam.

We knew Sam was concerned about the Kharaa bacterial infection that previously rendered 4546B uninhabitable.

We even heard of the frozen leviathan in a previous PDA log found at the destroyed underwater base in the Lilypad Islands, and Sam mentions it in one of her messages to Robin.

Now it's time to find and cure the Leviathan to finish Sam's work and honor her memory. As usual though, there's a few things we need before we go.

Building a Snowfox

It will be much easier to navigate snowy land terrain with a Snowfox, an on-land glider. There was one fragment we scanned while Finding Marguerite's Seabase, but there are more you can scan while Finding Phi Robotics Landing Pad.

You need three fragments total. You also need one Hoverpad fragment.

The Hoverpad fragment is found inside the Phi Robotics Center. Note that our guide writer already scanned the one below so it's not highlighted/scannable, but yours will be if this is your first playthrough or after you start a new game.

When you enter the big open door at the Phi Robotics Center, turn to your left and you'll see the hoverpad. If you aren't sure where the center is, return to the Finding Phi Robotics Landing Pad page.

Snowfox fragments can be found nearby as well. After scanning the Hoverpad, turn left out of the Robotics Center and head up the ramp to the cave area.

You can make a pit stop in this cave for Fevered Peppers if you need to stay warm, but otherwise, turn left and wind up the next portion of the ramp.

Beyond this opening you'll find a ladder. Climb it and enter the clearing above.

Search all the nearby rocks, corners and crevices for Snowfox fragments. Like most fragments, they spawn randomly and may appear in differing locations, but they'll be in this area.

If you scanned the fragment at Marguerit's Seabase, you only need two more. If you need three, however, no problem. Keep searching this area. You will also come across ladders you can descend; fragments may spawn here and the cave's shelter will warm you up, too.

The Snowfox recipe requires two Magnetite, a Battery, Lubricant and Titanium. Most of these resources you'll have made or know how to find already, except Magnetite.

Magnetite can be found in several biomes, but the best and easiest are the large glaciers in the Artic.

Mining Magnetite

Magnetite can easily be found in a large glacier. All you need is your Seaglide and a Laser Cutter, but we'll be traveling by Seatruck as normal. From your Drop Pod, head one and a half clicks left of Southwest and travel about 850 meters.

You'll begin to see large icebergs that extend deep into the water. Check your distance and search the bottom of glaciers at about 840 meters from your Drop Pod. You should see a channel that opens into the glacier.

Navigate your Seatruck to the opening at the top of this channel. You'll need to use your Laser Cutter to open the hole and go through.

Once inside, you'll want to use a Headlamp or the light from your Seaglide to light the way. You'll find an Ion Cube you can pick up, and in the cracks of the glacier walls you'll find Silver, Gold and Magnetite. You should be able to harvest at least four Magnetite.

Finding Outpost Zero

The next step in building the Snowfox is the Habitat Builder, which is used to make many exterior and base modules, rooms, and other items. You'll need to build the Snowfox Hoverpad with the Habitat Builder as well.

You'll need just a single fragment, and while they can also be found in the Koppa Mining Site and Twisty Bridges, we haven't yet discovered Outpost Zero.

From your Drop Pod, head northward until you come to the place you started the game, next to a wall of ice. Follow this wall East, navigating down and around to miss obstacles.

Continue until you see a U-Shaped gap; surface if you need to. Keep going until you pass roots in the water, avoiding collision. You will see icicles hanging down from the ice wall and the water will get deeper; turn left and dive down under the ice. You'll find a channel opens in the ice. Drive into the cove/cave area and exit your Seatruck.

Follow the Light Stick path, using Thermal Lilies to stay warm. The path will lead to Outpost Zero, which will have ton of scannable items and Collectibles, as well as a Builder fragment.

Scan it, and you will unlock the blueprint.

The Builder requires one Battery, one Computer Chip and one Wiring Kit.

Building the Hoverpad and Snowfox

Now you're ready to build your Hoverpad and Snowfox! Remember that the Snoxfox is inoperable on water, so your best bet is to build the Hoverpad in the area you'll want to use it. In this case, we'll build it near the Phi Robotics Landing Pad.

We previously visited while Finding Phi Robotics Landing Pad, but you can revisit if you aren't sure how to get there. Build your Hoverpad in an area convenient to you; we chose to build near the Seatruck.

The Hoverpad requires two Titanium and one Wiring Kit. You'll use the Hoverpad to build the Snowfox.

Select "Construct." The Snoxfox requires Two Magnetite, Lubricant, a Battery and Titanium.

Let the Snowfox charge for a bit before boarding; if it dies, though, you can pack it up from behind and take it to the Hoverpad to charge.

Kharra Antidote Location

You could find the Frozen Leviathan before the Antidote, but because we already know we need the antidote (the joy of reading a guide for help!) you can save a return trip if you like. If you want to see the Leviathan first, go ahead and skip to that section, then leave a Beacon to make it easier to return.

Before heading to the antidote location you'll need a Compass, Spy Pengling and Spy Pengling Remote. The Spy Pengling requires two Titanium, one Wiring Kit, one Silicone Rubber and one Battery. The remote requires one Titanium and one Copper Wire.

If you need to, return to your Drop Pod to craft these items then come back to the Phi Robotics Landing Pad.

From the Landing Pad head straight forward in a Southwest direction. If you walk, be sure to gather Fevered Peppers along the way to stay warm! We recommend taking the Snowfox you already built.

Continue down this path until you come to the Phi Robotics Lab clearing and turn left toward the frozen river path.

Continue Southeast down the frozen river under the ice bridge.

Just after the ice bridge there's a natural sloped path to your left. You'll need to dodge the Snow Stalker in your path or use a Flare to scare it away and head East.

Continue up the slope and turn right. Continue in a Southwest direction.

If you find yourself traveling at night, you can use your Seaglide to light your path. Continue Southwest until you arrive at the Phi Robotics overlook.

advertisem*nt

Stay on the upper level and continue Southwest until you come to a cliff overhanging on your right with icicles. The path will slope downward; follow it down. On the other side, do not go up the next slope, but continue to your right.

Next, turn left. You should see a hole or small cavern in the slope.

Deploy your Spy Pengling by equipping it and the remote. Drive it into the hole in the slope. But be careful not to fall off the edge!

Pick up the Antidote. There is also some Magnetite in this cavern if you need it.

Return to Robin quickly before hypothermia sets in. Drive close enough you can get the items out of the Spy Pengling's storage, and pack up your Spy Pengling.

Now we're ready to cure the Leviathan.

Frozen Leviathan Location

Now you will need to find the Frozen Leviathan.

From the Phi Robotics Landing Pad, we recommend again leaving on your Snowfox.

Head straight forward in a Southwest direction and follow the path until you turn left into the cave and come to the Phi Robotics Clearing.

Turn left and follow the same frozen river path.

Go under the natural ice bridge and use your Snowfox to dodge the same Snow Stalker from before as you turn to your left and go up the sloped path.

Turn right and go in a Southwest direction until you reach the frozen overlook from before.

Continue forward until you come to the cliff overhanging on your right with icicles. Follow the sloped path downward and south.

This time, turn left and go up the sloped path.

Follow it left until you reach the Acai tree clearing. Cross the clearing in a North/Northwest direction. On the other side you should see a tall communications tower. Head towards it.

On the left of the tower you will see a cave opening. This is the Frozen Leviathan entrance.

Follow the path; you will come to a fork and can turn right to enter Parvan's room. Here you will find Collectibles, like posters. You will also find a PDA and silver ore.

Continue down the path again and you will come to the Frozen Leviathan Excavation Site. There are some Collectibles and scannable items in this room, including Sam's Necklace.

Of course, the center piece of this room is the giant Leviathan frozen in ice. You can enter the lower ice tunnel to scan its claws, and use the elevator to ascend and scan its teeth and skull.

advertisem*nt

You will notice a small machine with wheels at the top of the elevator.

When you are ready and have finished scanning all the creature's parts and the Kharraa pustules, you can walk to the machine and put the antidote in.

Use the control panel to inject the antidote.

The Leviathan is now cured and Sam's story line is complete.

You can return to your Drop Pod and begin preparing for the end game.
