Why can't you swim in Lake Nockamixon, PA? ›

Swimming is not allowed in the lake, but boating is popular. The park maintains a marina and a boat rental as well as three other boat-launch areas.

Popular activities are picnicking, swimming in the pool, hiking, biking, disc golfing, hunting, fishing, and boating.

Great beautiful state Park, a lot to do with a large lake. marina, boat ramps, picnic tables, hiking trails, biking trails dirt and paved, swimming pool, cabin rentals, boat rentals, environmental programs, fishing, hunting and NATURE.

Alcoholic Beverages are prohibited.

A 37-year-old man drowned after rescuing two children from Lake Nockamixon. Family and colleagues of Marvin Alexan Fernandez Chicas remembered him as a hard worker, a loving father, and a hero.

While black bears have been spotted in Nockamixon in the past, the sightings seem to be occurring more frequently.

The 1,450-acre Lake Nockamixon has five public launching areas. The marina and Tohickon launch ramps are popular with enthusiasts of: Sailboats. Catamarans.

The cabins are located on the south side of the lake and are available for rent year round, with cabins #1, #2, #3 and #6 all welcoming dogs. Your pet will need to be leashed and under your control at all times, while you'll also need to take care to always clean up after your furry friend.

The local legend is that there is a whole village under the lake, but that is actually untrue. It makes for a good story, but all of the homes and other structures were all demolished and removed, with the exception of a stone arch bridge that remains.

Most park areas are open sunrise to sunset. Fishing and boating is permitted 24 hours a day in designated areas. Some park areas are closed in the winter, but there are some picnicking areas, fishing areas, trails and cabins open year-round.

Excess algae also creates odor problems which discourages swimming and reduces overall enjoyment of the lake. During summer months, Lake Nockamixon experiences thermal stratification (layering based on temperature) of its waters as do most large reservoirs.

Pennsylvania has strict rules when it comes to driving with open alcohol containers. State laws also prohibit open alcohol containers in public spaces such as parks and other city-owned places without express permission. This law extends to sidewalks and streets in Philadelphia, among other public locations.

It is illegal to consume alcohol in public places in Philadelphia unless the space you are drinking in has permission/permits to do so from city government (like public beer gardens).
