Why is MarketSphere Unclaimed Property contacting me when another company owes me the money?
MarketSphere Unclaimed Property is one of the largest and most experienced Unclaimed Property service providers in the industry. As such, we perform customer outreach on behalf of a wide range of companies. Customer outreach is required by law to owners whose funds have remained unclaimed for a certain period of time. This letter represents our clients’ last attempt to reunite you with your funds prior to turning the funds over to the state as “unclaimed property” as required by state law. The letter provides you with instructions on how to claim these funds.
Is there a fee for this service?
No, there is no fee associated with claiming this money.
Why is there money due to me or why do I have an account balance?
According to our client’s records, you may have unclaimed funds. We receive limited information from our clients regarding the transaction that created the balance. We are unable to provide further information regarding these funds. If you have a contact at the company on the letter, we suggest calling the contact or the customer service number for the company.
What do I need to do to claim this money?
You may respond using our letter response portal at the website indicated in your letter. Funds can also be claimed by fully completing the letter as directed and returning the letter by mail, email, or fax. Please note that duplicate submissions can potentially delay processing. The completed letter and any accompanying documents must be received by the response due date specified in the letter. If the information is received by the deadline indicated in the letter, our client will issue you a replacement check, gift card, or update your account status, as appropriate.
What do I do if I am not the person referenced on the letter?
If you are an executor, trustee, or hold power of attorney for the person referenced in the letter, you may claim the funds by completing and returning the letter. However, in order to move forward with the claim, you must also attach the appropriate documentation as referenced in the proxy section of the letter.
If you do not know the person or company indicated in the letter, our client likely had an outdated address for the rightful owner, and you should disregard the letter you received.
If the money is owed to our company, who signs?
An individual authorized to act on behalf of the company should sign the letter.
The owner referenced on the letter is deceased. What do I do?
If you are an heir to the property, you may complete and sign the letter on the decedent’s behalf. However, you must provide a copy of all supporting documentation, such as Death Certificate and proof of authority to act, for the claims process to move forward.
What type of paperwork should I attach to my response?
If completing the letter as a proxy, proper documentation is required such as POA Declaration, Death Certificate, Will, or Probate Form.
The address on my letter is incorrect. How do I update my address?
Please indicate an address update in the section provided on your response letter and we will provide the company with your new address.
I have yet to receive my replacement check. What do I do?
If you submitted your completed letter prior to the response deadline cited in the letter, our client is in the process of issuing you a replacement check. Please allow up to 10 weeks from the response deadline indicated in your letter. If it has been 10 weeks since the response deadline and you have not received your replacement check, feel free to contact us at StateFarmUP@up-letter.com or call us at 816-559-0646.
What do I do if I missed the deadline?
We must receive your response postmarked by the date specified in the letter. If the deadline has passed, our client is required by law to send the funds to the state indicated on your letter. At that point, you will need to claim your funds directly from the state. Website links to each state’s Unclaimed Property Divisions can be found at the bottom of this page. With the large volume of unclaimed property reported to each state, it can take up to 6 months for your unclaimed property to appear on the state’s website.
