Storage of Potatoes and Beets

Postby rongameplayer »
Is there a place to store Beets and Potatoes? I am not sure how the belt system works either. Bought one thinking I could use it to grab the crop from the ground and dump them into a tipper. Nope lol. Could use some advice on the belt system and storage of the beets and potatoes.

Beets and potatoes can be stored anywhere on the map, literally anywhere you would want to tip them. But if you are looking for a silo for them, if you are playing on Goldcrest Valley you can use the train silos to store your potatoes and sugar beets. Although, they tend to fill up quickly with the high yield of beets and potatoes...

Using the Lizard S-710. I drove it up to the beets. The belt didn't automatically start. I force it to "Unload Here" and it works. Any idea what I'm doing wrong? I folded the belt and unfolded the belt and still nothing. I'll have to play around with it. See what I need to do or not do. Thanks everyone for your help.

If you dump them on the ground, then use belts to pick them up, you lose 10%. If you store them at the train station you're paying a daily storage fee. I've used the multi storage shed that clw2147 posted the link for and it works great, also the modded version of the hay loft which works equally well.
There's another hay loft which holds even more crops and is less expensive, a bit unrealistic, but works as well.
And last, if you download Hobbs farm, he has 2 placeables, a potatoe storage shed and sugarbeet storage shed. Each one has a capacity of 800,000l. They are rather large and costly at $140,000 each, but I tested them on a couple of other maps and they work on them too.

Well ... just turn the "engine" off when you placed it where you want it ...
It will "feed" even with the engine turned off!

Wait, hold on.
I can understand losing the 10% with the belts (which is good information to know btw), but how do you know we are being charged a daily storage fee when we use the train silos? Where is the cost being recorded in the finances screen? And how much are we being charged per day per liter or ton?

I've read it dozens of times, here and in the Steam forums. Had no reason to disbelieve them, and had no reason to use the train silos because I use the placeables, but just for you I ran a little test. Fast forward to Monday 00:01 and loaded 100,000l of sugarbeets into train silo. Fast forward 24 hours til 00:01 Tuesday morning and added 100,000l of potatoes. Fast forward another 24 hours till 00:01 Wednesday morning and added 100,000l of wheat. The result is $500 per 100,000l per day.

Huh, that is interesting. I thank you for taking the time to do the testing. I didn't know that the train silos required a fee to use them, but now that is good to know for the future. I guess i will just have to be careful about storing crops in the train silos.
